Cherbourg

Cherbourg is its surroundings.

At the end of the Cotentin peninsula facing the sea, 15 minutes from our guest rooms, Cherbourg offers many activities. This city was and remains a stopover for the biggest ocean liners in the world (Harmony of the Seas, Queen Mary). The largest harbor in the world hosts a commercial, fishing, pleasure and military port. Bathed in the sweetness of the Gulf Stream, the gardens and parks have a great botanical richness thanks to the exotic varieties brought back to the time by sailors and travelers. Cherbourg also regularly hosts major nautical events such as the Figaro race. Below is a non-exhaustive list of the city's centers of interest:

  • The city of the sea, a scientific and fun park, devoted to underwater exploration and the discovery of great depths also has a Titanic exhibition.

  • Ferries to England or Ireland.

  • The Ravalet park and castle, superb Renaissance castle in blue schist, restored at the end of the 19th century by René de Tocqueville who also created the landscaped park which frames it with a rotunda greenhouse and water features. The estate, owned by the city of Cherbourg since 1935, covers 18ha.

  • The Italian-style Theater of Cherbourg-Octeville, built on the site of the old grain halls, it has been classified as a Historic Monument since 1984. Work conducted by the architect Charles de Lalande, it is one of the jewels of the last generation of Italian theaters produced in France.
